Lefty Dizz and Shock Treatment Live in Chicago
These performances were recorded in Chicago at the height of the career
of Chicago's most flamboyant and entertaining bluesman. Lefty Dizz
studio recordings are rare, and no live recording has been previously
available. Lefty was at his best live, and this compilation captures the
wild, raw energy of his live performances. Most of Lefty's studio
recordings were produced in Europe without his powerful band, while
this collection features Shock Treatment at it's best.
The CD begins with a performance at the 3,447-seat Granada Theater
on November 6, 1982. The Granada was built in 1926, in the ornate
Spanish Baroque architectural style, at 6427 N. Sheridan Road, and
was demolished in 1990. This is followed by a performance at The Sports
Corner on June 19, 1982. This small tavern was located at the
northeast corner of Addison and Sheffield, adjacent to historic Wrigley
Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.
Shock Treatment was composed of long-time band members, Jimmie
Smith on guitar and Nick Charles on bass, with Carl Snyder on
keyboard, Charles Caldwell on drums, and a four-piece horn section
featuring saxophonist Gary Wiggins added for the Granada show. Ike
Anderson played bass at the Sports Corner.
The CD features 11 high-energy tracks, comprising 79 minutes of
house-rockin' Chicago Blues.
Lefty Dizz passed away on September 7, 1993, following three decades of
memorable, unique performances.
